We love our Grizzlies!

This past weekend Scott and I went to two Grizzlies games. We have been season ticket holders for about 10 years now. Before that, we went to many Salt Lake Golden Eagles games. When the Grizz came to town we went to almost every game. We had some great times, especially in the 1995-1996 season when the Grizz won the Turner Cup. A long time ago, when we didn’t have kids we were very involved with the team. I almost never missed a game. Even when I was getting my masters degree, whenever I had night classes I would listen to the game on the radio as I sat in class. I knew every players name and number by heart. Each season I had my favorite players. I watched away games on TV, I read about the team on the internet, and I followed everything I could about the team. I remember driving around in my car trying to get the best signal so I could to listen to the game on the radio.

The last few years, we haven’t been nearly as involved. We still go to as many games as we can. The team has struggled over the last few seasons, too. The last time they were in the playoffs was 2002-2003 and they lost in the first round. We are hoping that this season will be different. They are in the playoffs this year. They dropped down to the ECHL, so this year they are playing for the Kelly Cup. Right now they are playing Fresno in a best of 7 series. They are up 3 games to 2, with 2 more possible games in Fresno. This past weekend they lost Friday night, but played really well. Saturday was a really exciting game where they won 1-0 in overtime.

Right now I am sitting on my bed watching the game on the internet–it feels like old times ;-) The Grizz are playing in Fresno. They only have to win one of the next two games to make it to the second round. I am keeping my fingers crossed! Right now the score is 3-2 Grizzlies with a few minutes left in the third period. So far it has been exciting, and I really hoping that we will see more hockey this season at the E-Center!

Edited to add:
THEY DID IT! They won the game 4-2. They move on to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-1997 season! Way to go Grizzlies!!
