Traveling to Maui

We made it to Maui, but it was not very much fun getting here.

To start with, there was a huge snowstorm in the morning. We got to the airport, and worried that our flight would be late or canceled. Everyone at the airport assured us that our flight was on time. We boarded on time, but that was the only part of any of our flights that was on time.

We sat on the runway for about 2 hours. We had to be de-iced once, then we waited in line on the runway. We sat there a while, then had to go back to the de-icing station because more ice accumulated on the wings while we were waiting to take off. We finally got into the air and on our way to Los Angeles.

We ended up being about 2 hours late, which was no big deal for us. When we made our reservations there were 2 flights from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. One was a 45 minute connection and the other was almost 5 hours. I didn’t want to risk missing our flight, so we opted for the 5 hour connection. It just seemed like the safest thing to do.

However, when our flight got close to boarding they announced that the second flight from SLC was late. It had 26 passengers on it that were bound for Maui and they decided to hold our flight for an hour to wait for them. I wish I would have known that when I made my reservations! I could have saved myself 5 hours of traveling.

The flight from Los Angeles to Kahului Maui was terrible. Nora was exhausted and fell asleep just before we took off. She woke up about 45 minutes later screaming and went on to have a full on melt down. She cried and flailed around. I tired taking her out of her seat to soothe her and she flung herself on the floor, screaming the whole time. I finally distracted her with some M & Ms. I have never seen her act like that and it was absolutely torture to have her do it on the plane. The people around us were loving her, I am sure. Unfortunately about an hour later she repeated the whole process of sleep then a melt down. It felt like the longest flight of my life!

But we made it, drove to our condo, and got all settled in. Everyone was exhausted. Nora was begging to go in her crib. Despite it being a really hard 17 hours of traveling, we are in Maui, and that makes it all worth it.

Sounds horrible! For future, never plan to leave town on the day of Park City Dance’s Nutcracker… they’ve had a huge snow-storm every year for the last four years, apparently (and they’ve only been doing it for six!). Glad you all made it there in one piece (well, except for sanity, but a walk on the beach will fix that!).

OH Kerry! I’m SOOOO sorry!

But kiss the sun for me!

And have a wonderful time!!!xoxox
