One of my very favorite spots on Maui is the Gazebo Restaurant.
It is a hole in the wall located at the back of the Napili Shores Condo complex. There is always a long wait. You can’t make a reservation, or put your name on a list. You just stand in line and wait your turn. People happily wait outside, rain or shine. If it rains they hand out umbrellas to try to keep you dry. The restaurant itself is tiny. You sit packed around small square tables in white plastic chairs that they sell at the grocery store.
But while you wait, you get to enjoy a fantastic Maui view. The restaurant sits out on a point overlooking Napili Bay. During whale season, you are almost guaranteed a whale sighting. Green Sea Turtles are usually swimming in the waves out front.
But for me, the reason I go back to The Gazebo over and over is the pancakes. That is saying something, because I am really not a pancake eater. I always order the combo short stack: one macadamia nut, one pineapple, and one banana pancake. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the whipped butter topping that they serve on the Macadamia Nut pancakes. I guess it is a mixture of Dream Whip, maple syrup, and butterscotch. Sounds crazy but it is really delicious. I think about these pancakes all year and I always look forward to my trips to the Gazebo! If you are ever in West Maui, don’t miss the Gazebo for breakfast.
