Ski lessons for Ian!

Ian started ski lessons for the first time yesterday. I decided to take him to the Canyon’s, since they had some openings in their locals preschool program. It was a steal at $36 for a 2 hour lesson!! They had a great set up, and he got to go on the magic carpet. I went up the gondola with Nora and watched out the window of the lodge. The first run Ian went straight down and crashed at the bottom! He proceeded to go straight almost every run. The instructor tried to teach him to stop, but he just wouldn’t do it. He can, but he won’t! But, he had a great time, and that is what is really important. Hopefully over the next few lessons he will learn how to stop.

On our way back to the car he started to get tired and didn’t want to walk anymore. It was a really long walk from the childrens’ center to the parking lot. I was holding his hand and he started “hanging” from the hand I was holding. I tripped over his foot and fell face down in the muddy parking lot–while I was holding Nora in my Mei Tai carrier I tore both knees out of my jeans and cut up my hands and knees pretty bad. Ian bumped his head on the pavement, but he recovered quickly. Luckily I didn’t hurt Nora at all. She didn’t even cry. I was pretty shaken up over the whole thing. I kept thinking about how lucky I was that I didn’t hit Nora’s head I was scraped up, but nobody was seriously hurt.

To top off the evening, Ian had another one of his breath holding spells. Scott gave him some rescue breaths to try to get him to snap out of it. All they did was get air in his tummy. When he woke up, he complained that his tummy hurt. He started throwing up and proceeded to throw up all evening. I don’t think we will try the rescue breaths anymore[;)] I really can’t wait until he grows out of these episodes. This one was in the garage while Ian was playing with Scott on a skate board. Scott had never really seen Ian have a long episode, and I think that it scared Scott. It is a scary thing to watch.

Ian had his 3 year well child check today too. He was 27 1/2 pounds and 37 3/4 inches tall. He is developing normally! Dr. Evers was really impressed with some of his skills. He could stick out his tongue and say “AHHH”, which is supposedly a 5 year old skill. He also pointed to a yellow butterfly on the wall and correctly identified it as yellow. He has tons of energy, but Dr. Evers was great about it. He reassured us that it is totally normal, and he has no attention deficit problems. He is just an active boy. Dr. Evers said Ian is lucky to have me for a mom. It really made my day!
