Photography worries

I started a new photography class last week–Digital Photography II. Last class I felt like I already knew most of the concepts we were learning. I didn’t get to see too many of the shots the other students took, but the ones I saw were not very good. I just felt like I was one of the better photographers in the class. This class is a totally different story. I still feel like I have a pretty good handle on the material, but in the actual picture taking department, there are definitely better photographers than me.

This past weekend was our first field trip. The equipment some of the people had was amazing. I saw Canon L series lenses all over the place. One woman in the class is a travel writer, and sometimes takes pictures to go along with her stories. Another guy said he has had some of his sports photography published. I am nowhere near that!

The only reason I care about this is because of our assignment. In our last class we had assignments, but we never really showed the results or had to talk about them at all. This class we have to take a series of 5 shots that are related somehow: things that are round, shots of people, architecture, etc. Then we have to show them to the class and explain what techniques we used to get the shots. I have been stressed about this ever since I saw that we have to get up and talk in front of the class.

I just can’t decide what to take my 5 pictures of. I was really hoping tp get something I liked last weekend, but I wasn’t too happy with anything. Plus, I didn’t get 5 of anything, so I couldn’t use them anyway. I keep trying to come up with something creative. I want to show 5 shots that I am proud of, but I just don’t know what to shoot.

I have been thinking about it for a few days. My favorite thing to take pictures of is people, specifically kids. So, I think I am just going to take 5 pictures of the kids. One of the catches of the assignment is that the shots have to have been taken during this class. I wish I could use the shots I took of Emma at Red Butte Gardens. Those are some of my all time favorite pictures ever. Now I just have to try and set up a few photo shoots of the kids and see if I can get anything worth presenting!

I think your pictures look awesome, you don’t have anything to worry about! I have to do a poster for my recital to advertise around school, and I should have you take the pictures – I would be happy to pay you.

I didn’t really finish that…oops. So let me know if you’re interested in doing something like that. If not, don’t sweat it. I was wanting something that was a little artsy fartsy with me and the piano – maybe a little abstract. Anyway, think about it and let me know.

Kerry, your photography is always just STUNNING!

You’ll do fantastic!
