Nora’s First Day on Skis

My dad has been itching to get Nora out on skis ever since the winter started. He talked to her about skiing earlier this week. She heard “skiing” and thought that he meant right then. When he got up to leave, she started crying saying “I need to go skiing!”

My dad, mom, and I decided to take her today while Emma and Ian went to their lessons at Deer Valley.

Her eyes just lit up when I told her we were going skiing. Mind you, she really has no idea what skiing is, but she was sure she wanted to do it. I got her all dressed in her ski suit before we left the house. She was so proud of her ski suit. She looked at me and said “Did Nana and Grandpa buy me a ski suit?” in the cutest little animated voice. She was just thrilled.

I got Emma and Ian all checked in. It was a total disorganized mad house. Then we were off to “ski” with Nora.

We took her over by the Burns lift and put her skis on her. Immediately she started sliding the skis back and forth and walking on her skis. It was amazing. We watched an instructor trying to get a 4 year old to do the same thing. Nora just did it instinctively as soon as she got the skis on. She also tried to make a wedge. We just walked around with her at the bottom of the run. We wanted her to have fun, and to make it a good experience. I was afraid that once she found out what skiing really was, she wouldn’t want to do it anymore.

She had fun for a bit, then started saying “I no want to ski anymore.” We went in for lunch and then she wanted to do a little bit more.

I think her first day on skis went great. She had fun, and she was really proud of herself. I think we all enjoyed watching her, and sharing her first day of skiing with her.

Gosh, that’s impressive – I’m surprised my parents ever took me again after my first time (I was ridiculous and wouldn’t even stand up because I was terrified) and I was probably 8!

Good child psychology! Cute pics! I’m so glad your kids have your parents for grandparents.xo
