Emma and Ian started ski lessons this week. Earlier in the week I was wondering if they would even have enough snow to ski. I could still see grass everywhere in the neighborhoods, and the mountain had hardly any snow. This morning we woke up to about a foot of snow in our yard. It is supposed to keep snowing until tomorrow night.
So lessons started in a blizzard. Scott stayed with Nora and I took Emma and Ian up to the mountain. We went to the locker room, got their stuff on and off we went. I could tell a huge difference in them this year. Mostly just in how they were able to walk around on their own. I made both of them carry their own skis. I know they can do it, and I just wanted to get off on the right foot. I remember carrying my skis at their age. I hated it, but I could do it
I think that is how they felt, but I really want them to be able to do it. I can just barely manage carrying my stuff and Nora. I can’t carry their stuff too. Actually, they did great. They didn’t even complain all that much. Emma did especially great!
We got out to the lesson area and met their teachers. I could see that both of them were so excited. Ian’s eyes were just sparkling. Ian hit it off with his teacher Paul right away. He is such a little charmer. He started a whole conversation right away. Emma was a bit shy at first, but she warmed up quickly.
Ian stayed on the magic carpet the whole time. The other little girl in his class had never been on skis before. She was crying quite a bit. I think that held Ian back a little. I thought he was ready to go on the lift, but spending the day on the magic carpet probably didn’t hurt him! I was just happy that they were both out there and excited to be skiing. Emma went to First Time with her teacher, Rich, and I didn’t see her until they were done. He said that she did great and that she is ready to go up to Payday next time.
It was fun to be back into the winter swing of things. I think this year Ian will have an explosion in his progress. I am sure that by the end of the year he will be a great little skier. I might not be able to keep up with him!

That’s so fantastic Kerry!!!
I’ve lived in Utah all my life and NEVER have been skiing. :S
When I was really little my Dad was going to take me. I was excited all day long. He came home early from work that day with a broken back, so we didn’t get to go and the opportunity never came again. (My family just doesn’t ski…)
Brian on the other hand LOVES skiing/snowboarding. When he finally had me convinced to go, it was a white-out blizzard and he knew I’d be miserable and never go again. Ever since then, I’ve been too busy with babies!
Fun memories for your family!
