Emma started kindergarten today! She has been excited about starting kindergarten for months, but this week she started saying she didn’t want to go. I am not sure what brought on the change, but she was very happy to go today. We picked out her outfit a few weeks ago. She was so excited to wear a dress–since she wants to wear a dress every day! Then I found some zebra shoes that matched the dress perfectly. She has been wearing them everyday even though they are too big and she can hardly walk in them. I got the kids up early so they could both take a shower and look cute for pictures I wanted to make sure I got some good ones for Emma’s first day of school.

We got all ready and I took some pictures of the kids on the front steps. I always remember my mom taking pictures of Bryan and I on the front steps on our first days of school. I got some cute ones of Emma and Ian together. Then we got in the car and went. I kept wondering if Emma was going to be shy and sad when we got there. She was like that last year the first few days, and she was like that again this summer for camp. But, she was totally happy. She marched right in and hung up her lunch box in her cubby and went right outside to play.

Surprisingly, I haven’t felt very emotional about the whole thing. I kept wondering if I would feel more sad on the actual first day of school, but I really didn’t. I can’t believe that Emma is already 5 and starting school, but I didn’t feel sad about it. I think part of it is because she went to Little Miners last year too, and it just doesn’t seem that different to me. I am proud of her and I hope she has a great year in school!
