Kapalua Adventures

We went on an adventure today.

Kapalua built a new adventure park since we were here last year. Bryan checked into it and booked us a reservation today. I didn’t really know anything about it. I just knew there were a few zip lines and it would take us about 3 hours.

We got there and got all harnessed up and into the Unimog that they used to drive us up to the top of the course. We drove us up into the pineapple fields above Kapalua. We drove into a private gated area that is off limits to anyone but those doing the zip line. It is like a nature preserve up there and the landscape and views were amazing!

As we got to the top of the first zip line I started getting nervous. I started shivering–I’m not sure if it was from the cold wind or the nerves. But I am thinking it was the nerves. I don’t really know why I was nervous. I knew that nothing could really happen to me. I was totally harnessed in and there was even a brake system at the end. All I had to do was hang there, but I still had butterflies in my stomach.

We started out on the practice line. It still looked high and fast, but it was much smaller that the others. My dad and Scott went first. As I watched him get all hooked up to the line and ready to go, my nerves started to go away. As I watched them zip down to the bottom I started to get excited for my turn.

When I went I expected to get that falling feeling that you get on a roller coaster, but I didn’t. I just looked around and leaned back and tried to go faster. It was a blast and I had a great time.

We had time in between each of our 4 rides to walk around and explore and learn about some of the foliage. We found some Strawberry Guavas and sampled those. They were about the size of a grape and bright red. They were kind of sweet and tart at the same time.

Here is a fun shot of Bryan and Mary as they came to the bottom of our second ride.

It was really fun to try something new, and zip lining was a blast. The company was great and the views were amazing!
