I ♥ Faces: “Happy Birthday”

I took this photo of my youngest daughter on her second birthday. We were camping with our good friends at Lake Powell. I made the cake at home before we left and kept it in the cooler the whole time. I knew we weren’t going to be able to do anything big on her actual birthday, but I still wanted to be able to sing to her and have a birthday cake. It was almost dark by the time we finished dinner. I love how the only light in this photo came from the candle. I love how it casts the glow on her face. I smile every time I look at this photo and remember her special birthday at Lake Powell.

I love the candlelight on her face. Nice job!

I also love how it’s just lit by the candle. Now, had it been my cake, I could of lit the whole campsite. Thanks for sharing.

lovely little beach birthday party!

Man, I love Lake Powell … great college day memories. Anyways … fabulous shot. I like how his face is illuminated by the candle. Great capture.

Beautiful! I love the glow from the candle.

Excellent job! The lighting and her precious little face- too cute!

Oh wow. Very good. I love candlelight. Mind sharing your settings and such?

I don’t mind sharing my settings at all! I took this with my Tamron 18-200mm lens with image stabilization. My settings were 1/30s, f/5, ISO 1600, at 50mm. Without the image stabilization I don’t think I could handhold at 1/30s. Also, I shoot with a Canon 50D and it still takes good shots without a lot of noise at ISO 1600. Hope that helps!

just want to eat it up!

Amazing photo! I love the glow of the candlelight!
