We made it home from Maui this morning. As painful as the night flights are, this trip was infinitely better than the trip over. This six hour flight from Kahului, Maui to Salt Lake City was just a bit longer than our layover was on the way to Maui.
Everyone did well on the flight. Ian fell asleep as soon as we got on the plane and slept the whole flight. Emma did some work in her workbook, then slept a bit. She woke up with about an hour and a half to go and watched a movie for the rest of the flight. But I wasn’t really worried about the two of them. Nora was the one I was worried about. After the trip over I was dreading getting on a plane with her again. Luckily, it turned out much better than I was expecting.
She fell asleep as soon as we got on the plane. She slept soundly until about and hour left in the flight. She whined that she wanted to see Daddy, and that she wanted a drink. I got her a sippy cup, which helped for a bit. She kept asking to see Daddy, and I just kind of pretended I was sleeping. I was happy that on this flight her complaints never escalated to a full out tantrum like on the last flight.
Once we landed we were all dazed and exhausted. Walking outside was a complete shock. It was so cold! We got to the van at Diamond Parking and froze while we loaded the luggage and got the car seats in the car. It felt like it took forever for the heat to get warm. There was so much snow and ice on the car that we couldn’t get the windshield wipers to work the whole way up the canyon. They were frozen under a few inches of ice.
Nora was tired when we got home, and we took advantage of her nap time. We put a movie on for Emma and Ian and Scott and I crawled into bed for a nap. We ended up sleeping for almost 3 hours! I still felt like a zombie for most of the day. I managed to get the bags unpacked and we went to the grocery store to stock our empty refrigerator.
It was another great trip. We did a lot of fun things together as a group. It was nice having our own condo this year. It was good for all of us. It is always sad to see the trip come to an end, it always seems to go by so fast. But, I guess it has to end sometime. For now, I can just look back on the fun times we had, and look forward to more fun times next year.
