Happy 4th!

July 4, 2008

4th of July crew

We did the usual on the 4th of July–we went to the Main Street parade. My mom got there early and saved us a great space. We set up the blanket and the kids got front row seats.

The kids loved the 4th of July beads and the fans that people were handing out. We brought Nora in the stroller, and it worked out great. She sat there and just stared at the parade. She was really into just watching.

Look at that!

The parade had the typical fighter jet flyover. I think that was my favorite part of the parade. I got goose bumps when they flew over. I felt really patriotic, and lucky to be an American. I know that our country has a lot of issues–especially lately. But, compared to many other countries, we have so many fantastic opportunities, and so many chances to have great lives. I just felt lucky.

The parade had it’s usual funky entries.

After the parade we went to Glenwild for a BBQ and swimming. The kids remembered that they had a climbing wall last year. They talked about it for days, and they couldn’t wait to go. We even stopped at Wal*Mart and bought them some tennis shoes, so they would have good shoes to climb in. We got there, and it was right out in front. They got all harnessed up and they wouldn’t do it. They both climbed up about one hand hold and then got scared. I was surprised. Last year they were both awesome at it. They both climbed all the way to the top, and this year they wouldn’t do it at all. I was surprised, but I didn’t push them. When we finally left, they had taken the whole thing down, so they didn’t get a second chance.

We ended the night by doing some of our own fireworks, and then going to the Park City fireworks. We weren’t going to go. I was worried it was too late for the kids–especially Nora. While we were lighting our fireworks we talked to our neighbors about going to the fireworks. They gave us a good tip about where to park, and said we could even watch from the car. We decided to go for it, and joined the Wales family. We sat next to the post office, and it was great. It was fun to visit with our neighbors, and to see the fireworks.

We had a fun and full day!
