Every year on the first day of the year I want to come up with something profound to say. I always want to write a moving post about the past year, and all the things I want to accomplish in the year ahead. The problem is, I am really not that great of a writer, and I am not much of a New Year’s resolution maker.
The first day of 2009 was a great one. We just relaxed and enjoyed all the great parts of Kahana Village. We went to the pool about 10:00am. All three kids had a blast in the water. All of their friends were there. Ian turned into a swimmer on this trip. He can comfortably go into the pool without any floaties and swim on his own. He is really proud of himself. Nora is just crazy in the water. As long as she has her floatie bathing suit on, she is totally self sufficient too. Around 11:45am Nora went in for a nap, and I just laid in a lounge chair and read magazines.
Towards the evening we took the kids down to the ocean. Emma and Ian had a great time with the Boogie Boards. They both paddled out on their own and caught waves. Nora swam around with her floatie suit. I sat on the sand and watched and took photos. I’ll post some when I finally go through them all.
Our Maui trip is winding down. My mom and dad left for home today. We are usually the first ones to leave, so it was a bit weird saying goodbye to them. We walked them out to the parking lot to say goodbye. We all waved goodbye and as they pulled away Emma started crying. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and said “I am going to miss Nana.” It was really sad and sweet at the same time. My mom got out of the car and came back and hugged her again. It is cute to see what a close relationship they have.
Well, my first post of the year wasn’t very profound, but my first day was relaxing and really enjoyable. I hope to spend our last few days in Maui doing more of the same thing!

Who needs profound when you’re in Maui for pete’s sake? LOL
Happy New Year!
