Facebook

I joined Facebook today. I have always thought those things were kind of dumb, but my friend Yori has been talking about it. I thought I’d log on and take a look at what it was all about. I am so glad that I did.

I found my friend Wichy from Puerto Rico that I haven’t seen in about 20 years! My dad was working in Puerto Rico when I was in 8th grade–I would guess it was around 1984. We spent 2 summers there at a resort called Rio Mar. It was a great place to spend the summers! We lived very close to the beach, right on a golf course. The resort had pools, tennis, golf, horseback riding, and the beach.Bryan and I had tons of friends and lots of fun. We played tons of golf–and had lots of fun with the golf carts. One of our favorite things to do was take the golf carts off roading on the beach. We would get them out there and get stuck in the sand, but it was so much fun. We spent many summer nights hanging out by the pool with all the local kids. We made some really good friends.

Wichy was really my first boyfriend. I think I was 14 when we met. His family had a condo at Rio Mar, where they spent the summer. We spent the whole summer together. I was so upset when we went back to Utah. I missed him so much! My parents flew Wichy to Utah for Christmas that year. It was so much fun. It was his first time seeing snow. We taught him how to ski. We kept in touch for a while after that.

The next summer, we went back to Puerto Rico. We lived in a different condo, on the other side of the Rio Mar property. We saw each other a few times that summer, but I don’t think they spent that summer at Rio Mar. After that they moved to Tampa, and we lost touch with each other.

Over the years I thought about him quite a bit. I wondered where he was, and what he was us to. A few times, just for fun, I put his name in different places on the internet, to see if I could find him. I never came up with anything because Luis Berrios is such a common name. Today when I signed up for Facebook, I tried again. I found about 5 pages of Luis Berrios. But, one of them said Luis Berrios Camano, and something about that triggered my memory. I looked at his “friends” list, and saw an Alex, and Michelle–he had siblings with those names! So I sent him a message, hoping he didn’t think I was a crazy stalker. He sent me a message right back–and it was him!

We talked on the phone, and it was great to catch up with an old friend. Bryan still goes to Puerto Rico for business. I think they might meet up for lunch. I hope we can keep in touch. What a small world!
