Congratulations Maren!

Tonight was Maren’s Senior Piano Recital at Brigham Young University. Watching her I was totally in awe. I have absolutely no musical talent whatsoever. I can’t sing in tune, and I never did master either the piano or the flute I played in 6th grade. The music she played was beautiful and she was amazing.

I was just blown over by the fact that she could remember all the notes. She played for about an hour, and she didn’t have any music in front of her. That alone was incredible to me. As I watched her I thought about how hard she had been working for the performance. She was practicing for 4 or 5 hours a day!

She was the only one playing, and there were a lot of people there just to see her. She told me that she had been a nervous wreck all day. It was a big night for her, but she did amazing.

It was a really fun night. Steph came from New Jersey, and Beth & PF, and Sammy came from Denver. The Sundahls’ met before the performance at a nice pizzeria in Orem. We had a babysitter, and so did Steph. I think that might have been the first time that we all did something together without kids. It was nice

I wanted to take some more pictures, but I was worried about disturbing people. This was the first time I took photos at an event that was so serious and the audience was so quiet. I hadn’t ever noticed before how loud my camera is. I turned off all the beeps, but the camera itself makes noise as it exposes. It was also a difficult setting to take shots without flash. I needed a zoom to get any decent pictures, but in such low light, my lens was just not quite fast enough. Still, I got a couple that I liked, and I hope Maren will like them too. ;-)(Let me know Maren and I will get you some copies of these.) There are a few more on my Flickr account, too.
