Goodbye to Damien :-(

March 29, 2006

Yesterday we had to put Damien to sleep. It was so sad, and so hard. It was so much harder than I expected it to be. I knew it was coming for a long time, and I thought I was prepared, but I just wasn’t. Andrea watched the kids at McDonald’s and Scott and I went to University Pet Clinic with Damien. I was fine until we got into the room and Dr. MacCarron came in. I started crying then. He was so good. He laid an the floor on a blanket. We fed him lot and lots of treats. They put a catheter in his leg, and then just game him the drugs though the catheter. He laid down and we fed him treats and petted him as he went. He went very peacefully. He just laid his head down gently onto the blanket, and he was gone. I just sat there sobbing and hugged Scott. I was really broken up about it all day. It was really hard to lose him. He was the first pet I ever had as a puppy and then had him his whole life. I think he was happy with us, and we gave him a good life. I loved you buddy!

Last night I had my first dream about the new baby :-) I dreamed that it was a GIRL!! But, it was a really weird dream. I was in a movie theater watching a movie. It was like hours after I had delivered. I was with Emma, but nobody else that I can remember. I looked at the baby and thought “Wow, you sure aren’t very cute.” It was weird!

I had another appointment with Becky today. Everything was great. I am 14 weeks and 2 days. I am up 5 pounds total. I gained some the last few days. Baby’s heartrate was 152. Emma and Ian got to hear the heartbeat. Ian was so cute. He heard it and got huge wide eyes and a smile on his face. He looked at me all excited and said “You did it Mommy!” It was priceless. Emma just looked, and afterward said that she didn’t like it. I am not sure what she meant. I wonder if she can still remember being scared of the doppler when I was pregnant with Ian…who knows?

Well we are supposed to be leaving for North Carolina tomorrow. However, tonight as I was getting the kids into the tub, I noticed water dripping out of the light fixture in Emma’s room. Ugh. So, I am waiting for Roto Rooter to show up. I hope it isn’t a huge problem, and that they can find the problem and stop it tonight so that we can still leave tomorrow morning. I have a feeling it may be a long night :-(
